Goals

For my passion project there are several goals that I wish to accomplish by the end of the school year. As my project is to construct a 1:48 scale Consolidated B-24 Liberator, the obvious primary goal which I am aiming to achieve is to successfully build the model to be as visually appealing as possible, to contain as much detail as possible, and to be as historically accurate as possible. While this is the ultimate goal I have several other goals which I Will need it accomplish in order to get the final product I want.

The first and most important of these goals is to learn how to properly paint models. More specifically I would like to learn how to paint with an airbrush, so as to get a more even and realistic finish for the exterior of my model. Fortunately Mr.Tim Toews has agreed to show me how to properly use an airbrush.  The other component of painting which I would like to learn is how to properly use tape, in order to get crisp straight lines. This is actually quite difficult and can have a large affect on how well the model turns out (especially on clear pieces).

Another goal I have is to learn how to use filler (filler is used when there are small gaps between the plastic pieces in a model). While filler is not always nessesary and I did not use it on my previous model, it is something that I would like to learn how to work with. I plan to learn this using Internet tutorial videos.

The last technique I would like to learn is sanding, sanding is necessary to remove ridges and seems where pieces meet. Sanding is very important to achieving a realistic look and is definitely something I will want to do to my model. As with sanding I plan to learn this skill using helpful videos on the Internet.

At this point in time I have not yet started my model, and I will likely not start actual construction until after the missions trip due to the busy nature of this week. During Spring break I intend to buy the necessary paints and brushes and hopefully get a significant way into my build.
